Forever & Always
03:32
|
|||
Writers have written for myriad ages,
myriad verses on myriad pages
About the great loves to which all should aspire.
Yet, who could believe that we could find that fire?
But when I met you, they were all proven wrong.
Our love is the one that they tell of in songs.
Every day I always try to find a way
That’s different from before to say
You’ll always be my love
Something new that lets me make it clear to you
Together we belong, it’s true
You fit me like a glove
So I wrote across the
Sky, in letters a mile high
That I’ll love you forever and always
For eternity and beyond; my love will not end
And I posted on the
Web for all the world to see
My devotion to you is unending
This I swear: I will love you forever and always
History is filled with tales of love, but we
Surpass those oh, so easily
Don’t you know that, love?
Time will tell, but you deserve to know it well
The many reasons why I fell
Outnumber stars above
So I wrote across the
Sky, in letters a mile high
That I’ll love you forever and always
For eternity and beyond; my love will not end
And I posted on the
Web for all the world to see
My devotion to you is unending
This I swear: I will love you forever and always
I will love you
Forever and always

All I Really Want Is You
04:16
|
|||
Sleep won’t come. I think of too many things
That might drive you off, leave me in pain.
So, I cry and shake as I feel the sting
Wondering how I’ll get through
All that I might have to do
And I know that you could break my heart
It’s a simple thing for you to do
Still, I’ll take the chance, don’t want to live apart
My life’s all yours to renew
All I really want is you
All this time, I’ve been playing from behind
No real feel for the game.
Hoping to catch up, hoping that I’d find
Something solid to pursue
The sure way to a breakthrough
And I know that you could break my heart
It’s a simple thing for you to do
Still, I’ll take the chance, don’t want to live apart
My life’s all yours to renew
All I really want is you
Years past I gave my love to one I thought was true
I know that’s a sad cliché
And being burned before can’t help but fear this spark
And the flames that will ensue
And I know that you could break my heart
It’s a simple thing for you to do
Still, I’ll take the chance, don’t want to live apart
My life’s all yours to renew
All I really want is you

Montauk Highway
04:46
|
|||
The clouds that hang above the choppy ocean
Create a stormy, slate gray sky
And standing on the beach I feel the cold
And watch the gulls fly by
I’ve got to get away from this Montauk Highway
She told me that she’d always love me
And be as constant as the tide
But always only lasted five short years
Now there’s no one standing by my side
I’ve just got to get away from this Montauk Highway
So I’m thinking that the other coast
Is a saner place for me
I could drop my top and take a drive
On that highway by the sea
Let the sun shine down and bake me
Let the wind blow on my face
I’d still be alone, but I’d be warm
And that’s a better way to be
So, I’m gonna go and pack my bags
Fill my tank and dry my eyes
Remember that we had some good times too
Make the rounds, say my goodbyes
Cause I’ve got to get away from this Montauk Highway

(If I Had) One Prayer
03:48
|
|||
If I had one prayer
Would I pray for you?
Would I pray for me?
Would it set me free?
Would it set you free?
Or heal you of disease?
Would we find some peace?
If I had one prayer.
Still I know I’m just a man
Doing what I can
Its God’s plan
I’d accept His plan
If I had one prayer.
If I had one prayer
What good would it do?
Would God hear my plea?
Would He answer me?
Would His answer be
Understood by me?
Or would I not see?
If I had one prayer.
Still I know I’m just a man
Doing what I can
Its God’s plan
I’d accept His plan
If I had one prayer.
Questions haunt our years. Answers never clear.
When we’re filled with fear does God then appear

All things happen for a reason
Not chance, but somehow by design
Your glance, but with some divine intervention
All things happen for a reason
You grew up just five short blocks from where my family lived
It could have been five hundred miles for all the good it did
We went to different schools, we hung with different kids
Think of what we missed and all that could have been
All things happen for a reason
Not chance, but somehow by design
Your glance, but with some divine intervention
All things happen for a reason
Who knows all the times we passed each other on the street
Never realized just how our lives were incomplete
But in our early twenties, the ether shifted sweetly
We became entwined, our futures were assured
All things happen for a reason
Not chance, but somehow by design
Your glance, but with some divine intervention
All things happen for a reason
Coincidence is just a lie to keep non-believers sane
Let’s them think all the choices in their lives were freely made
All things happen for a reason
Not chance, but somehow by design
Your glance, but with some divine intervention
All things happen for a reason
All things happen for a reason

Graceless Time
03:49
|
|||
On my desk I keep an old photograph
You and me, at some formal affair
I have tried to find what we had right then
Everything just leads me back to there
In this graceless time, love's tossed aside for something less
All disconnect - no love’s finesse
I look at the moon and I watch it cry
We’re apart; no answers to my prayers
Cool and calculating, a panther hunts her prey
Where is warmth found in love’s world today?
Now all that remains: this worn photograph.
Memories of true love’s ways now rare.

Long Forgotten Memories
04:30
|
|||
A dusty box of photographs found on the closet floor.
I’m amazed to see a life I never knew before. Was there more?
Did they ever use pet names
when hand in hand? Send Valentines?
Play lovers’ games?
These long forgotten memories,
a life left far behind.
Did she ever have a second thought
or did he fade from mind?
She’s laughing on a sunny beach; she never went with us.
Here he holds her close, their eyes are locked, so amorous. Love close up.
Why did they end up apart?
Left in the past. What caused this shift?
This change of heart?
These long forgotten memories,
a life left far behind.
Did she ever have a second thought
or did he fade from mind?
Sitting here I can’t help thinking
Sixty years, that could be me
With my daughter, the one wondering
About a life, she didn’t see
And I know I can’t allow that
That I need to tell her soon
Of my life before our family
My own sunny afternoons
I close the box of photographs to take them home with me
so that I can keep discovering her history. What will I see?
Will I like all that I find?
I’ll take that chance. She won’t be less,
just redefined.
Will I like all that I find?
I’ll take that chance. She won’t be less,
just redefined.

Your Lovin' Does For Me
03:03
|
|||
When you’re lying next to me I know how lucky I must be
To have you in my life. My friend, my lover, and my wife.
At these times I hope and pray that we could always stay this way.
Protected from life’s storms, snuggled close and always warm.
Darling, don’t you see? This is what your loving does for me.
So I close my eyes again and hunker back down in our bed
And down to dreams I slide. I’m happy by your side.
All we need is love. All we need is love. All we need is love. Need is love.
While days fly and turn to years we laugh, we cry, we hope, we fear,
We live life as it comes and dance to all its changing rhythms.
Even though we will grow old we know our passion won’t grow cold
‘cause carried in our hearts, our promise that we’ll never part.
Darling, don’t you see? This is what your loving does for me.
Through it all one thing endures: our love, forever strong and sure.
And knowing leads the way to living every day.
This is what your lovin’ does for me!

If I come to see you in the morning will you be there
Or will you be gone before the dew evaporates
If I said “I love you” would you tell me that you love me
Or would you tell me that I should just evaporate
Love’s damned unpredictable
You never know when it will come
You never know how it will go
‘Cause love’s damned unpredictable
If I compliment your looks will you take it for how it’s meant
Or say that I’m a sexist pig – evaporate!
If I said, “I love you” would you tell me that you love me
Or would you tell me that I should just evaporate
Love’s damned unpredictable
You never know when it will come
You never know how it will go
‘Cause love’s damned unpredictable
I have never been too smooth when looking for romance
Because I haven’t got a simple clue
About the things a woman wants a man to say or think
It’s why I never know what I should do
Love’s damned unpredictable
You never know when it will come
You never know how it will go
‘Cause love’s damned unpredictable
So, if you see this nomad wandering around your dessert
Please just have a half a heart and offer me a drink or two
Please don’t leave me stumbling along alone my beat down path
Give me a chance to show you what a real nice guy can do
Love’s damned unpredictable
You never know when it will come
You never know how it will go
‘Cause love’s damned unpredictable
Love’s damned unpredictable
You never know when it will come
You never know how it will go
‘Cause love’s damned unpredictable
Love’s damned unpredictable
Love’s damned unpredictable
Love’s damned unpredictable

Crossing Your Rubicon
04:01
|
|||
I stand alone, deep in doubt,
Not knowing what’s right or wrong.
Should I take a chance, this time,
By crossing your Rubicon.
Over time you have built your walls,
Drawn your line in the sand.
But I think it’s gone on too long;
That it’s got out of hand!
I stand alone, deep in doubt,
Not knowing what’s right or wrong.
Should I take a chance, this time,
By crossing your Rubicon.
Your instructions were very clear,
“We’re just friends, nothing more.”
If I want a relationship
It would lead to a war.
My destiny’s on the brink and
It’s crucial that I act now!
This chance will be gone; so, you know,
I’m crossing your Rubicon!
You are quite the enigma; but, why should I play your game?
If I don’t take this chance, I have just myself to blame.
So, like Julius Caesar, determined to win my fame,
I’ll march on you, your heart to claim.
My destiny’s on the brink and
It’s crucial that I act now!
This chance will be gone; so, you know,
I’m crossing your Rubicon!
Crossing your Rubicon

The sun is up, the temps are high.
I wanna grab my keys and drive
With the love of my life, up the Pacific Coast Highway
Yeah, we love to drive, up the Pacific Coast Highway
There’s nothing else I’d rather do
Then spend a day, just me and you,
On our rendezvous, with the Pacific Coast Highway.
Memories are made for two on the Pacific Coast Highway.
We’ve got the top down
We’ve got our shades on.
We’ve got our music loud
And we sing along.
We’ve got the sun high.
We’ve got the blue sky.
Worries are nullified for the day as we drive
With the top down.
No clock to punch, no place to be.
Just gonna see what we will see.
A California fantasy! On the pacific Coast Highway;
Yeah, we’re flying free on the Pacific Coast Highway.
We’ve got the top down
We’ve got our shades on.
We’ve got our music loud
And we sing along.
We’ve got the sun high.
We’ve got the blue sky.
Worries are nullified for the day as we drive
With the top down.
Well, today will be great because I’m with you
Doesn’t matter at all whatever we might do
Just gonna drive along the ocean taking in all the views
And then we’ll stop for a bite where our whims will choose
We’ve got the top down
We’ve got our shades on.
We’ve got our music loud
And we sing along.
We’ve got the sun high.
We’ve got the blue sky.
Worries are nullified for the day as we drive
With the top down.
We’ve got our top down!

I Drive Tonight
04:10
|
|||
I drive tonight
Along the east bound Sunrise Highway
Led by the light
Of unseen stars above
I chase your smile
Through tears that blur my inner vision
Of what we shared
Before the fates took you away
Each fall we walked the streets of Montauk holding hands
Drank wine by fires we built in the sand
Stood on the rocks around the point and spoke of years to come
All came undone
Too many nights
I’ve sat in darkened rooms without you
No appetite
No interests I could find
My memories
Of your eyes simply looking through me
You knew my heart
And now there’s no one who can see
The children that we thought we'd have will never feel your hands
And we will never walk exotic sands
I cry myself to sleep each night and dread the day to come
My life's undone
My doorbell rings
They go away when I don’t answer
If I had wings
I’d fold them over me
I pray for peace
Of course I don’t expect an answer
This pain is mine
And it will be mine till I die
I drive tonight
Along the east bound Sunrise Highway

We Can Make It Happen
03:54
|
|||
Skinny women demand gluten free
Kids with not enough to eat
Rockets fly on ideology
People dying in the street
Bankers, moguls, politicians soar
Safety nets are torn to shreds
Gleaming mansions rise above the shores
Below boxes serve as beds
But it’s never gonna happen if we give into them all the time
We need to make it happen, need to shift the power paradigm
Yes, we can make it happen, make the world we always hoped we’d find
Someday, yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah
Do they think this is how it should be?
Have they asked, “What would God do?”
When we’re faced with this reality
How do we make something new?
Stand our ground for some humanity
And oppose extreme beliefs
All we share will bring us sanity
Courtesy can bring us peace
But it’s never gonna happen if we give into them all the time
We need to make it happen, need to shift the power paradigm
Yes, we can make it happen, make the world we always hoped we’d find
Someday, yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah
Every day we could just chose to treat each other, building trust,
In the way we should, the way we want another to treat us
When we do, we’ll find the better world we pray for every night
Win the war without a fight
But it’s never gonna happen if we give into them all the time
We need to make it happen, need to shift the power paradigm
Yes, we can make it happen, make the world we always hoped we’d find
Someday, yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah
But it’s never gonna happen if we give into them all the time
We need to make it happen, need to shift the power paradigm
Yes, we can make it happen, make the world we always hoped we’d find
Someday, yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah
We can make it happen, yeah!
Power to the people, right on

Heart Of Gold
04:28
|
|||
A heart of gold from broken dreams
A different path, a life redeemed
Every day spent looking for the sun
To prevent us living on the run
To our darker selves
The truth be told, in life’s extremes
Is where we find what we esteem
Living on the edge brings us a thrill
But it cuts us and our blood is spilled
From our heart of gold
We can never end the battle with the sinner in our soul
We can only pin him to the ground and hope that we can hold
So we can keep our heart of gold
So much today is bacchanal
Releasing steam the rationale
Narcissism dances on a pin
To electric hedonistic din
Drowns our heart of gold
We can never end the battle with the sinner in our soul
We can only pin him to the ground and hope that we can hold
So we can keep our heart of gold
Make my confession, say contritions
Saving my immortal soul
But lost within the pleasure palace
How to save my heart of gold?
We can never end the battle with the sinner in our soul
We can only pin him to the ground and hope that we can hold
So we can keep our heart of gold
How can I save my heart of gold?

Agnostic's Lament
04:19
|
|||
I think that I might be agnostic
and, since I think, therefore, I am.
Questions abound; the truth is obscured.
We don't know anything for sure.
How can we know? How can we know?
Who says it's so? Who runs the show?
Who calls the shots? Who writes the plots?
Who do we blame for this rigged game?
Call him Allah, Budda, or Vishnu
Call him God, Fate, Destiny
Call him anything that you choose
It doesn't really matter much to me
Expand, expand till we have no more
and then contract; that is the law!
We must obey! But who's to say?
Why does it matter anyway?
How can we know? How can we know?
Who says it's so? Who runs the show?
Who calls the shots? Who writes the plots?
Who do we blame for this rigged game?
Call him Allah, Budda, or Vishnu
Call him God, Fate, Destiny
Call him anything that you choose
It doesn't really matter much to me
Thee Thee Thee Thee Thee Thee Thee Theology!
Phee Phee Phee Phee Phee Phee Phee Philosophy!
Thee Thee Thee Thee Thee Thee Thee Theology!
Phee Phee Phee Phee Phee Phee Phee Philosophy!
Divinity seems overrated
considering the cross to bear.
I can't believe, with that much power,
He'd stick around or even care.
How can we know? How can we know?
Who says it's so? Who runs the show?
Who calls the shots? Who writes the plots?
Who do we blame for this rigged game?
Call him Allah, Budda, or Vishnu
Call him God, Fate, Destiny
Call him anything that you choose
It doesn't really matter much to me
A living God or God is dead!
I don't understand a single word they said!
God's disappeared or everywhere;
The answer would make me a billionaire!
A living God or God is dead!

The Old Man & Max
05:01
|
|||
The old man wakes from in his dream
His eyes are wet from what he’s seen
It shakes him.
Their dog is lying on his leg
Max whimpers low and tilts his head.
He pets him
He slowly shakes his head. He won’t go back to bed, and so,
He and the dog get up and down the stairs they go.
The old man sits on their worn couch
And by his side the dog’s stretched out
Max needs him.
They watch the sunrise off the point
A sight that never disappoints
It cheers him.
“We keep her hours now,” he says to Max. They have since she has passed.
“She must be laughing now.” The irony’s not lost.
She said “I do” when asked and so did I,
when we were both too young to realize
What life might have in store.
But through it all our love stayed strong,
Our family thrived. Together we were fortified.
We weathered every storm.
We watched our kids grow up and move away.
They tackled life and did okay, with families of their own.
Soon 65 years passed and we were gray,
Then she got sick and passed away and I was all alone.
The old man knows it won’t be long,
Perhaps two years, Max will be gone.
It scares him.
He doesn’t want to face alone
The pain of her not in their home.
It tears him.
He touches her piano. He sees he leaves his trace within the dust.
He starts to softly cry. Sometimes it’s all too much.
Max lifts his head, then licks his hand.
At least today, he’ll be okay.
